Robert Wilkinson

Robert L. “Wilkie” Wilkinson of Southold died Jan. 7, 2015 at Eastern Long Island Hospital in Greenport after a brief illness. He was 87.
Robert was born March 21, 1927, in Glen Ridge, N.J. to Agatha (née Tooker) and Louis P. Wilkinson and married the former Jean Volinski Sept. 3, 1955, at St. Agnes R.C. Church in Greenport

“Wilkie” had been a mason with the Southold Town Highway Department.

Predeceased by his wife, Jean, Feb. 5, 2013; Robert is survived by three daughters, Linda Szymczak of Oklahoma, Ellen Dill of New Suffolk and Jennifer Grilli of Greenport; a sister, Jean Munson of Southold; seven grandchildren, Connie Robinson, Nicole Neese, Rebecca Neese, Rachel Neese-Rosa, Maegan Ramnarie, Karl Szymczak and Jared Grilli; and a great-grandson, Colton.

Robert was a man with many hobbies who always kept busy. If he wasn’t in his shop building a bird house or fixing something, he could be found on his boat. Robert enjoyed being on the water: fishing, clamming and scalloping and was proud to share this love with his grandchildren. His family and friends will also remember him by his sense of humor and the way he could always make you smile, He was great man who will truly be missed.

The family received visitors Jan. 9 at DeFriest-Grattan Funeral Home in Southold. A graveside service took place Jan. 10, at Sacred Heart R.C. Cemetery in Cutchogue.
