Lingering flurries from Tuesday’s blizzard left a dusting of snow on Southold roadways Wednesday morning.

Southold Town Highway Superintendent Vincent Orlando estimated that less than an inch of snow fell overnight in the wake of the storm that dropped more than a two feet of snow in some areas on the North Fork.

Crews sanded and salted the roads before midnight and were back to plowing by 7 a.m., he said.

All Southold roadways are now opened to the public. Plows, however, will continue to be on the move for much of day to continue clearing side roads, he added.

The next chance for snow will come overnight Thursday, according to the National Weather Service.

Snow is likely after 3 a.m.  That is expected to change to a mix of rain and snow showers before noon Friday, then a slight chance of snow showers between noon and 3 p.m., then scattered flurries after 3 p.m., the latest NWS forecast states.
