Virginia Lytle Rumpler

Virginia Lytle Rumpler of Peconic Landing in Greenport died Jan. 14 at The Shores at Peconic Landing. The former Southold resident was 84 years old. 

She was born Aug. 5, 1930, in Dobbs Ferry, N.Y. to Henry B. and Mabel P. Lytle and married John E. Rumpler, Jr. June 9, 1951, in Southold.

Virginia received her Bachelor of Science in economics from Russell Sage College and was the director of Human Resources for Stanton Pickering from 1974 to 1998.

From 1960 to 1995, she resided in Greenlawn. She then moved to Southold and became active in the First Presbyterian Church in Southold where she served as a deacon and an elder, and volunteered in the Mission Barn. She was a past president and member of Harborfields School District Board of Education.

Predeceased by her husband John E. Rumpler, Jr. Nov. 20, 2004, she is survived by her son, John “Jack” E. Rumpler III and his wife, Sharon, of Southold; a daughter, Cynthia “Cindy” L. Swiskey and her husband, Jack, of Southold; and four grandchildren, John E. “J.R.” Rumpler IV, Christopher L. Rumpler, Vanessa M. Hansen and Adam E. Swiskey. She was predeceased by a sister, Marilyn L. Chamberlain.

The family received visitors Jan. 18 at DeFriest-Grattan Funeral Home in Southold. A funeral service was held Jan. 19 at First Presbyterian Church in Southold. Interment took place at the church cemetery.
