A 71-year-old Greenport man charged with vehicular manslaughter is scheduled to be arraigned on upgraded charges next week, according to the Suffolk County District Attorney’s office.

John Costello had been scheduled to be arraigned this past Wednesday, but the court date was moved at the request of Mr. Costello’s attorney, William Keahon, a district attorney spokesperson said. Mr. Costello is now scheduled to be arraigned by State Supreme Court Justice Fernando Camacho in the First District Courthouse in Central Islip at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday.

Mr. Costello is facing several charges, including the top charge of vehicular manslaughter, following the Dec. 6 crash that left one man dead.

Mr. Costello pled not guilty to a misdemeanor drunk driving charge in Southold Town Justice Court immediately following the crash in December. Those charges were dismissed when he was indicted by a grand jury two weeks ago.

In addition to the top charge he also faces two more felony charges for recklessly causing death, along with three misdemeanor charges — two related to driving drunk — and a traffic infraction.
