Greenport News: An evening with a psychic medium

Now that February is almost behind us and spring just a little more than three weeks away, I’d like to thank all our highway departments — state, county, town and village — for the exemplary job you all did in keeping our roads cleared this winter. The hours and hard work you put in have not gone unnoticed or unappreciated.

The F.I.N. (Families In Need) program will sponsor a soup and sandwich luncheon at Clinton Memorial AME Zion Church on Saturday, Feb. 28, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Donations are $6 per person, and the soup choices will be vegetarian, chicken or beef.

The Greenport Teachers’ Association will host an evening with psychic medium Josephine Ghiringhelli on Friday, March 13, at 7 p.m. at the Soundview Restaurant. A chinese auction and 50/50 raffle will also be held, and light fare will be offered. Tickets, $40 per person, can be purchased from any Greenport teacher.

GHS Drama Club members are in high gear, readying themselves for this year’s musical, “Once Upon a Mattress.” Performances will take place March 5, 6 and 7 at 7 p.m. in the school auditorium.

I was quite reserved when the Duke Blue Devils beat the then undefeated Virginia Cavaliers in college hoops, and again when they beat Notre Dame by 30. However, when Duke beats UNC (as they did in overtime last week), all bets are off! So to Lou Swain, Matt Swain, Ron Rock, Crystal Rock and Meghan Caffery Philipps (all diehard Tar Heel fans) see you again on March 7, with, hopefully, the same results!

Charlotte and Bob Wissmann have both worked at the carousel for 20 years. On Feb. 23 the couple celebrated their 63rd wedding anniversary. Happy anniversary, Mr. and Mrs. Wissmann, and many, many more to you.

Blowing out another birthday candle in the next week or two will be Larraine Blasko, Michelle Schiavoni and Erin Corazzini on the 26th; Shane Hughes, Carl Ruroede, Valerie Andrews and Marlene Parrish on the 27th; my brother-in-law Mike Dinizio, Brian Kavanagh Jr., Jim’s aunt Pat Dinizio, Connor Golz, Betty Blasko, Laurie Reilly and my cousins Michelle Farruggia and Therese Donnelly, all on the 28th; and the Corwin brothers (Ev and Bob), Walter Cook and Anita Stulsky Grilli, who will also be celebrating on the 28th, as there is no Feb. 29 this year; Tony Volinski III, Heather Gadomski and Monna Parrish Butts on March 1; Bob White Sr. and Mary O’Brien on the 2nd; Marian Macomber, David Angevine and Leon Creighton Jr. on the 4th; Lydia Wells on the 6th; Stephen Klipp on the 7th; Sara Rhodes, Sirece Boldin, Mike Volinski Sr. and another cousin, Stephen Hocker, on the 8th; Jen Clark and her brother, Jeff, on the 9th; Esther Tedeschi and Josh Rowsom on the 10th; and Kevin Quillin, Donna Zurek Goldense and yet another cousin, Janet Blados, on the 11th.

A very happy anniversary is wished to Donna and David Angevine as they celebrate 33 years of wedded bliss on March 8.
