Health Beat: Senior Wellness Education Series continues

• The next discussion in the Senior Wellness Education Series, ‘Coping Skills: Managing Stress and Your Emotions,’ will take place Friday, March 6, from 11 a.m. to noon at the town senior center at 750 Pacific St. in Mattituck. Older adults, their family, friends and caregivers are welcome. Call 298-4460 for information or to arrange transportation. This ongoing series is presented by Southold Town Human Services and Eastern Long Island Hospital.

The Cancer Services Program of Suffolk County, a program of Peconic Bay Medical Center Health, has been named a recipient in the Avon-Pfizer Metastatic Breast Cancer Grants Program. Run by Pfizer Inc. and the Avon Foundation for Women, the program has given a total of $1 million to 23 organizations nationwide to support and educate metastatic breast cancer patients, their caregivers and their communities.

CSP will use the grant to increase patient awareness and expand metastatic breast cancer support services in English and Spanish. The grant will also support the CSP’s work with PBMC’s Palliative Care services and its efforts to improve metastatic breast cancer patients’ access to clinical trials and community-based support in such areas as legal services, transportation and home assistance.
