Helen C. Savino of Greenport died March 25 at Eastern Long Island Hospital in Greenport. She was 86. She was born May 21, 1928, in Brooklyn to Joseph and Mary Ellen Smith.
Ms. Savino worked as a chef for Maria Regina High School in Hartsdale, N.Y. and also for IBM. She was a past member of Columbiettes and St. Patrick’s Legion of Mary.
Family members said Ms. Savino enjoyed visiting patients at San Simeon in Greenport and Riverhead Care Center, cooking, gardening, spending time with family and being involved with her church.
Predeceased by her husband, James and siblings Dorothy Kelly, Joseph Smith and Charles Smith, Ms. Savino is survived by her children, James, of Nesconset, Patricia McAdams of Esmont, Va., Kathryn Young of Deer Park, Elizabeth Hanly of Mattituck; her siblings John Smith of New York City and James Smith of Queens; 10 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
The family will receive visitors Sunday, March 29, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Coster-Heppner Funeral Home in Cutchogue. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m., Monday, March 30, at Our Lady of Ostrabrama R.C. Church in Cutchogue. Interment will take place at Calverton National Cemetery.
