A 22-year-old Orient man involved in a street fight was arrested Friday night in Greenport for trying to engage authorities in a physical altercation, resisting arrest and spitting on an officer while in custody, police said.

William Mokus was arrested at 10:15 p.m. after Southold Town police responded to a 911 call reporting multiple people fighting in the roadway at 812 Linnet Street, officials said.

Upon arrival, Mr. Mokus, who officials said was “bloody” from the fight and “walking around the porch of the incident location in a combative manner,” approached a police officer in the roadway and began yelling multiple obscenities.

According to police, he then attempted to engage authorities in a physical altercation. After being subdued, Mr. Mokus allegedly began resisting arrest.

He was arrested, charged with resisting arrest and disorderly conduct, transported to police headquarters for processing and held overnight for arraignment. While in custody, police said, Mr. Mokus was also charged with harassment of a police officer after he spit on an officer while in a holding cell.
