Lifelong Greenport resident Elizabeth “Betty” Conklin passed away March 5, 2015, at San Simeon by the Sound in Greenport. She was 87. 

Born Dec. 13, 1927, to Lena (Howard) and Sterling Rouse at Eastern Long Island Hospital in Greenport, she attended Greenport schools and graduated in 1945.

Betty worked in Washington D.C. as a secretary for two years before returning to Greenport where she met and later married William “Punk” Conklin April 11, 1948. They raised their family in Greenport.

She was employed at Porky’s, Soundview, Claudio’s and Townsend Manor restaurants and retired at the age of 75.

Betty enjoyed her home, gardening, baking, the beach, dining out, shopping and church. She also enjoyed winter vacations Florida with her husband and in later years, with her close friend, Ann Miller.

Betty was predeceased by her husband, William; her son, Brad; and her daughter-in-law, Geri. She is survived by her sister, Mary Oty of New Jersey; her daughter, Beverly (Michael) Masci; her grandchildren, Kelly (Gary) Stoner and Nicole and Kirsten Conklin; and her great-grandchildren, Kyle, Charis and Brooke Stoner.

The family will receive visitors Friday, April 10, from 3 to 7 p.m. at Horton-Mathie Funeral Home in Greenport. A funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m, Saturday, April 11, at St. Agnes R.C. Church in Greenport. Burial will take place at Sterling Cemetery in Greenport. All are welcome to join the family at noon at Townsend Manor Inn in Greenport.
