Ambrose R. Terp

Ambrose R. Terp of Southold died March 19 at San Simeon by the Sound nursing home in Greenport. He was 95. 

He was born in New York City June 27, 1919, to Joseph and Ann Dora (Gallagher) Terp. He attended Southold High School and earned his registered nursing license at Bellevue Nursing School. Mr. Terp served in the U.S. Army from 1942 to 1945 as a medic/tech sergeant. He married Mildred Hallstein in Brooklyn on Jan. 27, 1951.

Mr. Terp was employed as a registered nurse at Pilgrim State Hospital in Brentwood and was proprietor of the North Fork Variety Store in Cutchogue from 1964 to the early 1990s. He had lived in Southold since 1960.

Predeceased by his wife in 2006, Mr. Terp is survived by his son, Michael, of Norwich, Conn., and a brother, Alfred, of Southold.

Graveside services were held March 25 at St. Patrick R.C. Cemetery. Father Peter Garry officiated.

Funeral arrangements were entrusted to DeFriest-Grattan Funeral Homes.
