Art Beat: ‘Salute to the Blues’ in Greenport

‘Mood Indigo: A Salute to the Blues in Song and Poem’ will be presented at 3 p.m. Sunday, March 29, at Floyd Memorial Library in Greenport.

The “musical journey” will be performed by Jere Jacob, Dee Labeglia, Mel Mendelssohn and Rebekah White. The program will feature the music of W.C. Handy, Louis Armstrong, “Fats” Waller, Ma Rainey, Bessie Smith, Ethel Waters, Billie Holiday, Duke Ellington and Billy Strayhorn, along with the poetry of Langston Hughes and Maya Angelou. 

• The Mattituck-Cutchogue Student Art Exhibition will be shown during April in Mattituck-Laurel Library’s art gallery. It will include work by students in grades 7-12.

Call for artists: Submissions are sought for East End Arts’ upcoming juried, all-media show, ‘The Cartoon.’ The exhibit will run from April 24 to June 12 in the Riverhead gallery.

The guest juror is Matthew Langland, artist and animator of the feature film “Waking Life.”

Artists may enter up to three pieces in all media, including video and sculpture, Thursday and Friday, April 16 and 17, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Saturday, April 18, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Those submitting video are asked to call the gallery at 727-0900 in advance.

Call for artists: Artists and artisan vendors may register for the annual Community Mosaic Street Painting Festival hosted by East End Arts. The event is set for Sunday, May 24, in downtown Riverhead.

Vendors who sign up on or before March 31 will be listed, along with a website link, on the event’s web page and their names will be included on the promotional flier.
