Esther Jane Glover was born in Glen Cove Hospital Nov. 30, 1934. Her proud parents were Allen and Emily Luyster. She lived in Huntington with her parents and younger siblings Nancy and Charles Luyster. Her schooling was in the South Huntington School district. Esther was always interested in music and sang in church choirs since she was twelve years of age. Her musical talents also led to her playing the violin, piano and ukulele. 

Following high school she attended Syracuse University majoring toward a foods and nutrition degree. However, a summer job refocused her attention to the dental field and she shifted to a degree in dental hygiene at Farmingdale State College. Following graduation, Esther worked as a Registered Dental Hygienist in the Farmingdale School District.

On June 28, 1958, Esther was married to R. Graham Glover, a St. Lawrence University graduate who recently returned from military duty in Germany. They produced three sons: Robert, Richard and James, all of whom reside on Long Island. Esther was predeceased by her son Robert, Feb. 26, 2015. Esther was a loving grandmother to Amanda, Caitlin, Tyler, Max, Ella, Sophie and Hazel Glover.

Esther went back to work as a registered dental hygienist, employed by Huntington area dentists as her sons progressed through the South Huntington schools. All during this time she found time to pursue her musical ability, became very active in church work and other community endeavors.

Upon Graham’s retirement from the telephone industry and their relocation to the North Fork, Esther continued her love for singing and was a member of two church choirs and the North Fork Chorale Esther was also a proud member of the Minnepaug Club and played golf with the “Cedarettes” at Cedars Golf Course.

A memorial visitation will take place Friday, March 20, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at DeFriest-Grattan Funeral Home in Mattituck. A Celebration of Life will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 21, at Mattituck Presbyterian Church.
