Greenport News: Great Music Sunday coming to Greenport
Many of you may believe summer is my favorite time of the year, but the truth is that March far exceeds my love of warmer temperatures because it brings with it “March Madness” – college basketball at its best. In my humble opinion, there is no sporting event that compares. I know the P.J. Corazzini family will be pulling for undefeated Kentucky, the Duells still have Marland blood running through their veins and the Rocks and the Swains will all be rooting for UNC-Chapel Hill, but this Dinizio family has its money on Duke.
The Au Courant Quartet — four accomplished alumni of the Juilliard School in New York City — will perform a Great Music Sunday concert on March 22 at 3 p.m. in the Greenport High School auditorium. The event is sponsored by Congregation Tifereth Israel synagogue. Tickets are $20; no charge for students. You can reserve by calling 516-297-1761 or pick up a ticket at The Market in Greenport; Southold Pharmacy; Shelter Island Pharmacy; Peconic Liquors in Cutchogue; and Village Cheese Shop or Love Lane Toys in Mattituck.
Speaking of Tifereth Israel, members, guests and visitors are invited to participate in Passover Seders on Monday or Tuesday, April 3 and 4, at 6:30 p.m. in the synagogue’s community room. The dinner will feature traditional foods like chicken soup with matzoh balls, homemade gefilte fish, roasted brisket, potato pudding and fruit and nut desserts. The Greenport Teachers Association will host an evening with psychic medium Josephine Ghiringhelli this Friday, March 13, at 7 p.m. at the Soundview Restaurant. Light fare will be served and there will be a chinese auction and 50/50 raffle. Tickets are $40 per person; get yours from any Greenport teacher.
Congratulations to the cast and crew of the GHS Drama Club for their outstanding performance of “Once Upon a Mattress.” Anyone who saw it gave it rave reviews.
I didn’t get to see my little man this weekend, but it was wonderful to spend some quality time with my daughter, Jenn. We ventured into the Big Apple Saturday evening to see Idina Menzel in “If/Then.” If you’ve thought about going to see it, don’t delay. You won’t be disappointed. But keep in mind it’s set to close March 22.
