Nancy Dale Kreppein

Nancy Dale (née Engelhardt) Kreppein, 62, passed away peacefully March 14 at her Cutchogue home. She had been waging a nearly seven-year battle against ovarian cancer, cared for by doctors and nurses at Memorial Sloan Kettering.

She is survived by her husband, Peter James; her son, Peter Michael; her sister, Susan Brigham of Cutchogue and her mother, Anne Engelhardt of Middle Island. She was predeceased by her father, Robert.

Born Feb. 10, 1953, in Port Jefferson to Anne and Robert Engelhardt of Middle Island, Nancy received a bachelor’s degree from State University of New York at Potsdam and a master’s degree from SUNY Stony Brook. She briefly served as an elementary school music teacher with Longwood School District. After that, Nancy served as a probation officer with Suffolk County for nearly 34 years. She was an active member of Cutchogue Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary.

Continuing her lifelong passion for music, Nancy contributed her talents (including playing the french horn) to multiple local orchestras and musical groups and taught a handful of students private lessons.

Nancy will be greatly missed by family and friends.

The family will receive visitors Tuesday, March 17, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Coster-Heppner Funeral Home in Cutchogue. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m., Wednesday, March 18, at Church of the Redeemer in Mattituck. Interment will take place at Cutchogue Cemetery.

Memorial donations may be made to the Ovarian Cancer Research Fund.
