Just in time for spring, Southold Town residents will be able to enjoy a game of pickleball at Cochran Park.
Pickleball is a paddleball-style sport that combines elements of tennis, badminton and Ping-Pong, according to the USA Pickleball Association. It is typically played on a badminton-sized court, with lines painted over a tennis court.
More than 70 Southold residents have requested that a pickleball board be made available at the tennis courts in the Peconic park, town recreation department director Ken Reeves told the Town Board Tuesday.
Mr. Reeves said it would cost the town less than $3,000 to paint pickleball court lines on two of the park’s six tennis courts.
Board members supported the idea and when the Cochran Park courts are resurfaced in the spring, the new pickleball courts will be created.
