Cops: Southold man arrested for driving drunk in Mattituck

A 26-year-old Southold man was arrested for driving drunk in Mattituck Sunday afternoon, Southold Town police said.

Joseph L. Charnews was stopped for rolling through a stop sign at the intersection of Love Lane and Pike Street around 4 p.m. and found to be intoxicated, police said.

A computer check revealed that Mr. Charnews had a prior DWI arrest, according to a police report.

His vehicle was impounded due to the DWI conviction, police said.

Mr. Charnews was held for arraignment.
