• Call for young artists: Entries are sought for the Arts Alive LI 2015 Poster Contest, whose theme is “I Love Long Island.” Open to students in pre-K through grade 12, the contest is sponsored by Arts Alive LI, a program of the Long Island Arts Alliance.

There will be prize winners in each of three age categories. Winning posters will become part of the organization’s commemorative poster series and will be exhibited in October at the Long Island Children’s Museum in Garden City.

According to LIAA executive director Theresa Statz-Smith, the contest is “best suited to those who draw, paint and specialize in graphic art or photography.”

Each artist may enter one piece; there is no entry fee. The entry deadline is May 22; digital submission is preferred. For guidelines and entry form, go to artsaliveli.org/poster-contest.

• Call for artists: Artists of all ages are invited to sign up for the annual Community Mosaic Street Painting Festival hosted by East End Arts. The event is set for Sunday, May 24, in downtown Riverhead, with a rain date of May 25.

Chalk “painters” work in squares marked out along Main Street in Riverhead. Artists must register in advance to be matched with a sponsored square on a first-come, first-served basis. The registration deadline is May 14. Squares will also be available for $20 on the day of the event.

Chalk and blending materials will be provided; kneepads are recommended.
