Cops: After crash, driver on prescription drugs blames spider

Police arrested a Southold woman for driving while impaired by prescription drugs following a car crash on Route 25 in Southold last Wednesday, Southold police said.

Kathy Avidani, 53, said a spider in her vehicle distracted her and caused her to run off the roadway around 6:06 p.m., according to a police report.

She struck an occupied parked car from behind, which then collided with another parked, unoccupied vehicle, police said. At the scene Ms. Avidani admitted to being under the influence of prescription medication and was arrested, police said.

She was released on her own recognizance and taken to Stony Brook Medical Center for treatment of her injuries.

No other injuries were recorded in the police report.
