A 61-year-old Greenport man is being held on $200,000 cash bail after he allegedly sexually abused a 3-year-old girl living under the same roof as him.

Arturo Fuentes-Chang is accused of placing his mouth on the girl’s chest and his hand inside her underwear as he pulled her hair at the Broad Street home where they both live Saturday afternoon, according to the criminal complaint against him. A prosecutor said the victim is the child of two adults who also live in the home and are not related to Mr. Fuentes-Chang.

Wearing dark pants and a hooded sweatshirt, Mr. Fuentes-Chang appeared before Southold Town Justice William Price at his arraignment Thursday morning, where a stay-away order was issued.  He is charged with sexual abuse in the first degree, a felony, and Judge Price said the case is likely to go before a grand jury.

Mr. Chang, who was represented by a legal aid attorney, did not enter a plea at his arraignment.

Speaking through a translator, he said he has lived at the home for 10 years and that he has worked the past eight years at an auto body shop in a neighboring hamlet. Employees of the shop said Thursday that they did not know Mr. Fuentes-Chang and they denied that he ever worked there.
