Mattituck News: A Mardi Gras-themed Fashion Show

Happy April! I know it’s hard to wrap your head around the fact that it’s April and there are still remnants of winter on the ground, but with Easter this Sunday, we have many reasons to count our blessings and enjoy our family and friends.

Love is in the air — and Scott Worth and Erin Boznyak are proof of that. Congratulations to these high school sweethearts, who became engaged last week. Anyone who knows these two knows their lives together began a long time ago. Congratulations and have fun planning your dream-come-true wedding.

Hats off to the PTSA, which recently hosted its 19th annual Fashion Show. With the theme “Mardi Gras,” the room set the tone for a night of fabulous fashions and a chance to catch up with friends. A round of applause to all the seniors who modeled, along with faculty and administration, who added pizzazz to the evening. A special thank-you to all the businesses that donated time, fashions and gifts to make this year’s event one of the best yet. Keep in mind that our local shop owners always step up to contribute to events that support our schools and students. So shop local!

During the fashion show, special light-up rings were glowing with the message that the Mattituck Athletic Booster Club will host a Glow in the Dark event around the high school track on May 9. Watch this column for details as the date approaches.

Best wishes to my nephew Jonathon and his wife, Cherilynn, on moving into their very first home on the North Fork. May you love your new community as much as I do.

Congratulations to McGann-Mercy High School ninth-grader Olivia Geppel of Mattituck, who sang with the Suffolk County Music Educators Association Division III East All-County Choir on March 14. The concert was held at Comsewogue High School.

The Mattituck High School Community Service Organization is very busy preparing for Easter. The students created adorable washcloth bunnies to distribute to senior citizens for the holiday. What a great way to give back to a community that does so much for our kids.

Belated birthday wishes go out this week to Fred Hansen, who blew out his candles March 26.

Many more of our neighbors will also be cutting birthday cakes in the next two weeks. Happy birthday to Betsy Dickerson, Samantha DeMey, Debbie Sidlasukas, Connor Davis, Rebekah Smith, Kirsten Ianno, Chelsea Peragallo, Kelly Peragallo, Patty Young, Johnno Ascher, Gail Bressler, Brianna Gatz, David Harbes, Rose Green, Jill Ball, Jessica Zaweski, Trisha Tarpey, Dan Bruno, Christa Pappalardo, Darla Doorhy, Kelly Kraebel, Donna Hamilton, Nick Lentini, Olivia Finn and Justin Underwood.

Because many people in Southold Town struggle to make ends meet and put food on their tables, CAST will sponsor a supermarket food drive Saturday, April 11. Please help fill the shelves of our local food pantry to help your neighbors.
