The sorry state of Greenport Village’s roads — a major issue in the last campaign — is about to get its first big fix.

Greenport Village Mayor George Hubbard formally announced plans this week to make repairs to four local roadways.

Mr. Hubbard pledged at Thursday night’s Village Board meeting that the four roads will be repaired before the summer time. Other roads will be paved in September or October

The village will also consider plans to survey roads throughout the village to figure out which ones are the worst and need to be fixed. The board may also decide to fill potholes on a more informal basis.

The repairs come in the midst of what local mechanics are calling the worst pothole season in years.
