Book Beat: Author of science-fiction thriller to sign copies of book

Izzy Doroski of Riverhead, author of the science-fiction thriller “The Inverted Mask,” will read from and sign copies of his book at 3 p.m. Sunday, May 3, at Floyd Memorial Library in Greenport.

The book is set in a fictitious national laboratory on Long Island, with part of the story involving an animal disease research laboratory off the coast of Orient Point. Mr. Doroski is a retired environmental health scientist who spent a year monitoring a radiation leak from a national laboratory’s nuclear facility.

George Giannaris, owner of Hellenic Snack Bar and Restaurant in East Marion, will be the featured “Book & Bottle” guest at 6 p.m. Thursday, May 7, at Suffolk County Historical Society in Riverhead. Mr. Giannaris will discuss his book “Ferry Tales,” which tells the story of his family’s landmark Greek restaurant and “its quirky relationship with the Orient Point ferry,” according to a press release.

Mr. Giannaris’ second book, “Ferry Tales 2: When Hellenic Freezes Over,” will soon be published. Admission is $5 (members, free). RSVP to 727-2881, ext. 106.
