Bill, better known as “Whoop” to friends and family, passed away peacefully at his home in Los Angeles, Calif., April 18, 2015, after a long and valiant struggle against cancer, never losing his optimism, courage, and strength of character. A Southold native for nearly three decades, Bill was born at Eastern Long Island Hospital in Greenport Jan. 1, 1951. He graduated from Southold High School in 1969, attended The Citadel and Cornell University, and was awarded a Bachelor of Science in nursing at State University of New York  Downstate Medical Center in Brooklyn.

After moving to Southern California in 1978, Bill specialized in spinal cord injury care and obtained a Master of Science as a nurse practitioner. Bill loved his profession and became a dedicated emergency room nurse practitioner and ER manager. His thousands of patients adored and respected “Dr. Bill.”

A volunteer member of Southold Fire Department and their racing team, Bill was also a loyal participant in Wheeler’s Garage “Car Gang.” The son of Anne and Bud Worth of Southold, he was an avid boater, sailor and fisherman and plied the waters of Eastern Long Island and subsequently sailed the Pacific Ocean in his sailboat “Whoops,” making frequent memorable trips to Catalina Island.

Bill was a devoted father to his children, Morgane Worth of Los Angeles and Jean Christophe Worth of Humboldt Calif., and a devoted family man to his sisters, Bonnie Rose Wilcenski (formerly of Orient, now of Sidney Center, N.Y.) and Sue Worth Feleppa of East Hampton, and a generous uncle to many nieces and nephews and other members of the family.

Always available to help celebrate an occasion, Whoop was a positive, caring, and cheerful soul and a loving supporter of friends on both coasts. He always signed his notes and letters with “Peace and Love” and that was the true essence of the man.

In addition to a memorial spreading of his ashes on the Pacific Ocean on April 30, a memorial celebration of his life will be held on the North Fork early in June 2015. For more Information, contact Sue Worth Feleppa at 516-443-3356, or Alex Feleppa via Facebook.

Donations may be sent in Bill’s name to the Southold Fire Department Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 1469, Southold, NY 11971.
