A Long Beach man was arrested early in the morning May 3 in Greenport for driving while intoxicated, Southold Town police said.

According to a police report, Raymond Frizelando Smith, 31, was pulled over at 1:04 a.m. on Route 48 after he didn’t stop at a stop sign. He then failed several sobriety tests and was determined to be intoxicated, authorities said.

Mr. Smith was arrested and transported to police headquarters for processing.

• Two separate identity theft incidents were reported to Southold Town police last week.
In the first incident, a Greenport woman told authorities May 4 that she discovered $490 in fraudulent purchases on her Bridgehampton National Bank statement, police said.

According to a police report, the woman said her statement included several charges from California and one from Virginia that she didn’t make.

In the second incident, a Peconic woman told police May 7 that someone had used her Social Security number to purchase a Verizon phone without her knowledge. The woman told police she found out about the alleged identify theft after receiving an email from Verizon notifying her of the recent purchase.

• A Southold man was arrested May 5 for driving with a suspended license in Southold, police said.

Matthew F. Jerome, 22, was spotted driving on Main Road at 1:43 p.m. by an officer who knew his license had been suspended, authorities said.

Mr. Jerome was arrested for third-degree aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, transported to police headquarters and held for processing.

According to previous reports, Mr. Jerome was arrested twice last year, including for driving with a suspended license.

Those who are named in police reports have not been convicted of any crime or violation. The charges against them may later be reduced or withdrawn, or they may be found innocent.
