Russell Walker Beverly
Russell Walker Beverly, known for his sensitive heart, calm demeanor and dry sense of humor, passed away May 9, five days after his 47th birthday.
He had bravely fought a nine-month battle against a rare form of brain cancer.
A resident of West Hartford, Conn., for the last 11 years, Russ grew up in Weston, Conn., and was a 1986 graduate of Weston High School. He earned a Masters of Architecture from Tulane University in 1992 (where he was a proud member of Sigma Chi fraternity), and a Masters of Business Administration from McCombs School of Business at The University of Texas in Austin in 2001.
Following graduation, he moved to New York City, and it was there that he met his future wife, Alexandra McPeck. They married Sept. 11, 1999, in Cutchogue.
Russ was a driven, dedicated worker who brought thoughtful leadership to every endeavor and was a caring mentor. His career included 10 years as a management consultant at Accenture and, most recently, two years as vice president of business solutions at The TJX Companies in Framingham, Mass.
Russ developed many deep lifelong friendships over the span of his short but wonderful life, beginning with his Weston classmates, with whom he later shared family ski vacations in Vermont and boating on Long Island Sound. He was also fiercely devoted to his Tulane Sigma Chi friends, who played an important role in Russ’ final months.
Family, though, was the essence of Russ’ life. He was completely and utterly devoted to his children, Maren Morgan Beverly, 13, and Walker Crain Beverly, 11. He was deeply proud of his children and took care to teach them life’s essentials, from the best way to start a campfire, to catching a crab to sailing a Sunfish on a windy day.
Russ had Texas roots that trace back generations, and an annual highlight was taking his wife and children to visit his family near Austin. From his infancy, Russ spent summers at his beloved family home overlooking Peconic Bay in Cutchogue, where his namesake great-great-grandfather, Russell Simeon Walker, laid claim around 1900. Russ forged deep, lifelong friendships at this special place, and his presence will be forever felt.
In addition to his wife and children, Russ leaves behind his mother, Carolyn McCall, and his father, James (Deborah) Beverly, who will miss him sorely. Also surviving him are his grandmother, Yvonne Beverly, and many aunts, uncles and extended family.
The world has lost a very good man.
Services will be held Saturday, May 30, at 2 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church in Southold.
