Anita Patricia Lechmanski

Anita Patricia Lechmanski of Jamesport passed away May 15, 2015, with her loving husband of over 60 years at her side.  She was 81. 

Born in the Bronx  March 5, 1934, to Nantie (Martin) and Edmund Nordland, Anita attended St. Agnes High School in Queens.

On Nov. 6, 1954, Anita married John C. Lechmanski in Flushing. They made their home in Melville for many years before moving to the North Fork 18 years ago.

She taught English to Polish immigrants for many years and loved to travel and create beautiful needlepoint.

A communicant of Our Lady of Ostrabrama R.C. Church in Cutchogue; Anita served as a eucharistic minister and was a member of the Rosary Altar Society.

She was a devoted homemaker who lovingly raised her family, said family members.

Surviving are her husband, John C. Lechmanski; her children, John, of East Patchogue, Stephan, of Poquott, N.Y., Matthew, of New Hampshire, Michael, of Melville, Dorothy, of Gansevoort, N.Y., and Patricia of California; six grandchildren: Matthew, Anthony, Nychol, Racquel, John and Clara; and nine great-grandchildren.

The family will receive visitors Tuesday, May 19, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at DeFriest-Grattan Funeral Home in Mattituck.  The Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 20, at Our Lady of Ostrabrama R.C. Church, officiated by Father Stan Wadowski. Interment will follow at Long Island National Cemetery in Farmingdale.
