2014-15 ATHLETES OF THE YEAR

For the second year in a row, Meg Tuthill, a cross-country runner and track and field athlete for Bishop McGann-Mercy Diocesan High School, was named an athlete of the year by the Times Review Media Group. Tuthill, a junior, is the first McGann-Mercy athlete to ever win the award more than once.

Tuthill was the only repeat winner among the slate of 12 winners for the 2014-15 school year. She was also one of four non-seniors in the group.

Reggie Archer, a senior who played football, basketball and competed in track and field, was selected as McGann-Mercy’s male athlete of the year.

Two seniors, Danielle Napoli (field hockey, softball) and Ed Matyka (wrestling), were tabbed as Riverhead’s top athletes. The winners from Shoreham-Wading River were freshman Katherine Lee (cross country, winter track, track and field) and senior Dan Hughes (football, basketball, lacrosse).

Seniors swept the award in Southold, with the honors going to Jenna Standish (volleyball, cheerleading) and Liam Walker (golf, basketball, baseball).

Mattituck was represented among the area’s top athletes by senior Nikki Zurawski (soccer, track and field) and junior Joe Tardif (soccer, basketball, baseball).

The winners from Greenport were sophomore Madison Tabor (field hockey, basketball) and senior John Drinkwater (football, basketball, baseball).

The awards were presented by the Times Review Media Group, which publishes The Riverhead News-Review and The Suffolk Times, on Thursday evening at the company’s headquarters in Mattituck.

This is the 31st year in which the company has selected and recognized the top female and male athletes at each of the high schools in its coverage area.
