Strawberry season is quickly approaching. When you pick, remember to grasp the stem just above the berry and pull with a slight twisting motion, allowing the stem to roll into the palm of your hand. Proper removal will ensure future growth. Bon appetit!
I learned through Gail Starkie, once a 16-year-old babysitter for former Cutchogue resident Lois Allen, that Lois recently celebrated her 101st birthday! Lois and her husband, Hayden, lived behind the old cemetery. A memorial was held in Mattituck a few years ago after Hayden passed. Gail and many of their friends from Floral Park were present. Lois currently lives in Connecticut and reads The Suffolk Times every week. Here’s to you, Lois; happy birthday and God bless!

To celebrate Cutchogue New Suffolk Library’s centennial, new commemorative bricks will be added to the Friendship Walkway overlooking the new entrance to the building. If you haven’t walked the walk, which includes a beautiful seating area with Adirondack chairs and a bench (built years ago by Eagle Scout Jonathan Bogardus), check out the colorful, serene setting to read or just sit and take it all in. You can add an engraved brick to the walk for a $100 donation. Stop by the library soon to learn more and pick up your order forms. The deadline is Aug. 15.

Debbie and Irwin Horowitz (aka GiGi and Poppi) of Boynton Beach, Fla., flew north two weeks ago to visit the Sheryll family and be present for the birth of their first great-grandchild, Eliana Sophia (aka Chava Simcha). The whole family sat in the waiting room playing games, talking and enjoying each other’s company while the newest addition to our family was being delivered! Mother, father and baby are all doing well! Thanks to Ernst & Young’s paid paternity leave, Jay is spending the first two weeks of his daughter’s life with his wife, Brigitte, and their newborn baby girl, making the transition to this new stage of their life a smooth one! Thank you to my husband, Marc, without whom none of this would have been possible. May God bless us and guide us through the life we have been given. Mazel Tov!
