Greenport News: Football team reunion set for July 4
I’d like to start with hearty congratulations to both the Mattituck and Southold boys’ baseball teams. What a spectacular weekend they both had in the state tournament. Special congratulations must go out to the Tuckers, who returned home as Class B State Champions.
With July just around the corner, I’d like to remind former Porter football players about the reunion at Skipper’s Restaurant at 7 p.m. on Saturday, July 4. Speaking of sports, congratulations also go to Madison Tabor, daughter of Andrea and Roger, who recently learned that she’s in the top 13 percent of athletes in the nation and qualifies to participate in the USA field hockey team for high school students. Way to go, Maddy!
This year’s graduation at Greenport High School will be a little different. Because the school auditorium has become overcrowded – and unsafe – in previous years, admission this year will be by ticket only. Seniors have each been given up to 10 tickets. Any tickets that are not used will be handed out on a first come, first served basis on graduation day.
A group of students who graduated 70 years ago — the GHS Class of 1945! — still gathers every five years to get reacquainted. This year the classmates will meet for lunch at noon Friday, June 19, at Michelangelo’s in Southold. Stop in and say hello!
Welcome home to two newlywed couples who recently returned from delayed honeymoons. Diane and Bobby Heaney visited Ireland, the land of their ancestors, and Lori and Jeff Dinizio relaxed in the sun on the island of Antigua.

A very happy anniversary is being wished to Nancy and Steve Foster, who celebrate 29 years of marriage on June 22; Nancy and Tim Mullen, who celebrate on the 24th; Nancy and Richard Jensen, married 43 years on the 25th; and my brother-in-law and his wife, Mike and Chris Dinizio, celebrating 28 years of wedded bliss on June 27.
