Richard J. Fogarty

Richard J. Fogarty of Mattituck died June 27, 2015, at his home surrounded by his family He was 79 years old and had been ill with Parkinson’s disease. 

He was born Oct. 15, 1935, in New York City to Albert and Irene (Regan) Fogarty.

On November 26, 1960, Richie married the former Frances Carmody at St. Joseph R.C. Church in the Yorkville section of Manhattan.

Richie served in the U.S. Army  from 1954 to 1956 during the Korean War.

He attended machine and metal trades school and enjoyed a long career as an Ornamental Iron Worker with Local 580, 361 & 46 ironworkers unions.

In the community, he was a member of Sacred Heart Parish, where he was a Eucharistic minister and  was a member of Knights of Columbus where he was a 4th Degree Knight and past Grand Knight District Deputy. He was also a former member of Mattituck Fire Department.

Surviving is his wife Fran; two daughters, MaryKate Fogarty (Christopher Lesiewicz) of Center Moriches and Deirdre (Richard) Anderson of Riverhead; a brother Albert “Buddy” Fogarty of Mattituck; grandchildren: Jason (Erin), Brendan (Janet), Katie, Christina, Christian and Ryan and great-grandchildren: Emma Grace, Micaela, Isabelle, Holland, Beckham and one more expected soon and many nieces and nephews.

The family will receive visitors Tuesday, June 30, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at DeFriest-Grattan Funeral Home in Mattituck. The Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 1, at Our Lady of Good Counsel R.C. Church in Mattituck. Interment with U.S. Army honors, will follow at Calverton National Cemetery.
