Three people were injured in an industrial accident involving machinery at Peconic Recycling Wednesday morning, according to Cutchogue Fire Department chief Bill Brewer.

Two Suffolk County police helicopters landed in Cutchogue near Depot Lane and Route 48 to airlift a man and woman to Stony Brook University Hospital. Another woman was transported via ambulance to Peconic Bay Medical Center.

The extent of each person’s injuries were not immediately clear, although chief Brewer said they appeared to be serious.

The accident occurred around 9:20 a.m. Chief Brewer said there was no information yet on how the accident occurred.

A manager at Peconic Recycling confirmed an accident had occurred but couldn’t provide additional details.

The Mattituck Fire Department and Southold Police assisted at the scene.
