Greenport News: Register for ‘Ladies Day on the Links’

Summer is now in full throttle. There’s so much to do and see this weekend: Tall Ships, Fourth of July barbecues and, of course, the reunion for those fortunate enough to have played football for Coach Dorrie Jackson. The reunion is Saturday, July 4, at Skipper’s Restaurant. The festivities begin at 5 p.m. with a raw bar under the tent. Old football films will be shown and I’m sure, at least once, the 0-3 loss to Riverhead in 1966 will be mentioned! It’s definitely going to be an evening of good times and good friends.

This week is your last chance to buy tickets for the Friends of Floyd Memorial Library’s raffle “Too Hot to Cook!,” a basket containing gift certificates to local restaurants. Please stop by the library and take a chance to benefit the funding of cultural events and children’s programs at the library. The winning ticket will be drawn Wednesday, July 8.

The Southold West branch of the Eastern Long Island Hospital Auxiliary will hold its second annual golf outing Monday, July 20, at Island’s End Golf & Country Club in Greenport. “Ladies Day on the Links” features a 9 a.m. tee time followed by a lunch buffet with cash bar, fun prizes and a 50/50 raffle. Win $15,000 with a hole-in-one, sponsored by Robert’s Jewelers of Southold. Entry fee is $125. Register by July 15. Call Barbara Koch, 477-0975, or Bill Fish, 477-0777.

The Boulevard Boyz travel basketball team will hold a car wash on July 4 from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the high school. Come show your support!

A great big welcome home to Cherie and Dick Hulse, who returned to Greenport recently to join in the celebration of the graduation of their granddaughter, C.J.

Elizabeth Eggimann, GHS Class of 2013, is entering her third year at Pace University as an environmental studies student. Liz has always been concerned with saving animals and saving the planet. She spent last summer at sea traveling Europe by ship and studying the environment. This summer, Liz is off to the Makauwahi Cave on Kauai, Hawaii, studying under renowned paleontologist-conservationist Dr. David Burney. Way to go, Liz.
