Cops: Drunk man tries to run from police

A Greenport man twice tried to run from police, once into oncoming traffic, before ultimately being arrested for disorderly conduct, Southold Town police said.

Police responded to a report of an intoxicated male just after 8 p.m. Friday night at North Street and Main Road. As an officer approached Michael Horsburgh, 36, he took off running through a yard and jumped a fence, police said. He was located on First Street and as police began to question him, he took off again, this time running into the road, causing cars to stop in traffic to avoid an accident, police said.

Police said Mr. Horsburgh was highly intoxicated and he was arrested on the disorderly conduct charge, a violation, and transported to police headquarters.
