Art Beat: Art auction and summer benefit in Orient

• An art auction will be part of Oysterponds Historical Society’s annual summer benefit set for Saturday, Aug. 1. Items up for bid can be viewed Thursday through Sunday, noon to 5 p.m., in the society’s Village House in Orient and seen online at paddle8.com/auction/oysterponds. Advance bidding may be done at the same site through midnight July 31.

The live auction opens at 5 p.m. Aug. 1, at Orient’s Poquatuck Park, with telephone bids accepted from registered bidders.

Artists whose work will be offered are William Anastasi, Joan Berg­lund, Michael Berryhill, Jeanne Betancourt, Gabriella Boyd, Richard Bosman, Dove Bradshaw, Kadar Brock, Alan Bull, E.J. Camp, Frank Cirillo, Tanja Dajcic, Frieda Dean, Dominick DiLorenzo, Jackie Gendel, Blaise Hayward, Ilya and Emilia Kabakov, Jsun Laliberté, Larry Lederman, David Lindberg, Byron McClintock, Tom McGrath, Mary Miss, Joshua Nefsky, Robert Oxman, Alix Pearlstein, Grace Graupe Pillard, Kara Rooney, Richard Serra, David Shapiro, Manuela Soares, Elisabeth Subrin, Carol Szymanski, Avis Underwood, Leo Villareal, Skip Wachsberger, Amei Wallach, Jessica Warboys, Marianne Weil, Ellen Wiener, Laura Westlake and Annie Wildey.

In addition, reproductions of early photographs of Orient by George Bradford Brainerd will be offered for sale during the benefit.

• A Summer Opera Concert Series will be hosted by Diliberto Winery in Jamesport on two Saturdays, July 25 and Aug. 15. Performances begin at 7 p.m.

The concerts, sponsored by northforker.com, will feature international performers baritone Rod Gomez, soprano Jodi Koegan, tenor John Tiranno and pianist Seth Weinstein. Local musicians include pianist Jessica Sisti, soprano Donna Butler and winery owner Salvatore Diliberto. The August concert will include local soprano Taylor Burgess.

Christopher Paparo of Calverton recently placed second in the Outdoor Writers Association of America’s Excellence in Craft photography contest. His photo of a bullfrog, which appeared on his 2014 Fish Guy Photos calendar, was a winner in the fauna contest.

East End Arts’ incoming artists-in-residence, Christina Schlesinger and Dawn Daisley, will offer workshops at the East End Arts School in Riverhead during their residency, from July 26 to July 31.

Ms. Schlesinger is a painter, collagist and encaustic artist. Ms. Daisley, a printmaker, works in relief, etching, collagraphs, photo transfers and other printmaking methods.

Workshops for ages 9-14 will be held Monday and Tuesday, July 27 and 28; adult workshops are set for Wednesday and Thursday, July 29 and 30. Ms. Schlesinger and Ms. Daisley will give artist talks from 4 to 5 p.m. Friday, July 31, in the EEA carriage house, followed by an exhibit and reception from 5 to 7.
