Longtime East Marion resident George Neamonitis died July 13. He was 85.
Mr. Neamonitis was born March 15, 1930, in Chios, Greece, to Kalliope Mourounas and Augustus Neamonitis. He married Koula Lyras Feb. 28, 1960, in Brooklyn.
Mr. Neamonitis was a member of Saints Anargyroi, Taxiarchis and Gerasimos Greek Orthodox Church in Greenport where he also served on the parish council.
Family members said he enjoyed gardening, bicycling, swimming and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
Mr. Neamonitis is survived by his wife; his daughters, Kellie Platis of Greenport and Evangelia Vastardis of Staten Island; his brothers, Pantelis, and Nico of Chios, Greece and Mike, of Brooklyn; his sister Eftehia Trafalis of Southold and five grandchildren.
The family will receive visitors Wednesday, July 15, from 5 to 8 p.m. at Horton-Mathie Funeral Home in Greenport. A funeral service will take place at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 16, at Saints Anargyroi, Taxiarchis and Gerasimos Greek Orthodox Church. Interment will take place at Sterling Cemetery in Greenport.
