Man suffers laceration from boat propeller in Gardiner’s Bay
A Connecticut man suffered several lacerations to his thigh after his shirt became entangled in his boat’s propeller while he was swimming in Gardiners Bay Saturday, Southold Town Police said.
Mark Coen, 56, of Gales Ferry, Conn. was returning to his boat’s swim ladder just west of Bug Light in Orient shortly before 5 p.m. Saturday when his shirt became entangled in the propeller, causing him to suffer several lacerations to his upper right thigh, according to a police press release.
A Shelter Island Bay Constable helped bring Mr. Coen back on board his boat, according to police, and his wife brought him safely to shore at Klipp Park in Greenport, where Southold police secured the dock.
Greenport Fire Department rescue responded and treated Mr. Coen at the scene before he was airlifted to Stony Brook University Hospital by Suffolk County Police Department Aviation.
