Former Mattituck resident William Minor Wells of Sebastian, Fla. passed away at Moffitt Cancer Hospital in Tampa, Fla. July 4, 2015.

William was born March 30, 1943, in Greenport and raised in Mattituck. He graduated from Mattituck High School in 1962, where he played both soccer and basketball.

Bill was a production supervisor at Ford Motor Company, Mahwah, NJ and then Edison, NJ for a total of 35 years.

He is survived by his wife Joan Elizabeth (Nelson) Wells, and two sons, Russell Scott Wells, his wife Adriana and their children, Julianna and Alexander and Douglas William Wells, his wife, Kimberly and their daughter, Raquel. He is also survived by his brothers Theodore Wells (Rita) and James Wells (Nancy) in Mattituck; his sisters Janet Howard of Muskegon, Mich. and Maryann Hoopingarner (Tony) of Cantonment, Fla.; his sister-in-law Wendy Nelson (Bradshaw) Brown (Bob) and his brother-in-law, Ron Wilke. Also surviving are a number of nieces and nephews and grand nieces and nephews in Mattituck, Florida, and Michigan and cousins in Long Island, Florida, and other places. Bill was predeceased by his father, Theodore Wells; his mother, Clara Anna Diaz Wells Foster; his stepfather, Charles Robert Foster; his brother David Wells; his sister Sheila Wells McKinnon Wilke; and his father-in-law, C. Edward Nelson and mother-in-law, Grace E. Nelson.

There will be a memorial service at 11 a.m. Saturday August 8, at Mattituck Presbyterian Church with a repast to follow. The Rev. Patrick Smith will be officiating.
