Greenport News: Fire department’s annual chicken BBQ Aug. 15

Slow down, summer! August is right on our heels and I’m not liking that one bit.

I won’t say Mary Saetta is happy, happy, happy these days, but if you see a little lilt in her step, here’s why. On June 29 her son and daughter-in-law, Rick and Jillian, became the proud parents of Dakota Gold Saetta, who weighed six pounds, 14 ounces. Bragging rights to this little bundle of joy also belong to maternal grandmother, Nancy Hunter, and aunt Dana Saetta.

The Fourth of July was a great night for the Olszewski household, with “firsts” all around. Theo and Jen, Joan’s grandson and his wife, became first-time parents and Joan’s son, Seth Tramontana, became a first-time grandfather, simultaneously making Joan and her husband, Richie, great-grandparents for the first time and Joan’s mother, Edie Kudlinski, a great-great-grandmother for the first time. Baby girl Bailey Tramontana arrived in Jamestown, Ga., weighing seven pounds. Congratulations to everyone!

Don’t forget: Greenport Fire Department’s Standard Hose Company will hold its annual chicken barbecue at the Third Street firehouse on Saturday, Aug. 15, from 4 to 7 p.m. Tickets are $20 per person and can be purchased at the firehouse or from any Standard Hose member — and, as always, takeout orders will be available.

Congratulations and a lifetime of happiness together is wished to Katelyn Dunne, granddaughter of former Greenporter Carol Giovannelli, who was married to Tim Brown July 20.

A great big (belated) happy birthday wish to Dorothy Owen, who was honored July 18 with a surprise party thrown by her children and family members from around the country. They gathered with neighbors in the backyard of her Bridge Street home, which was built by her husband, Jess. Born Dorothy Hickey in 1925, she was one of the original “Sterling babies,” born at Eastern Long Island Hospital.

Many people in Southold Town rely on CAST’s food pantry for assistance. CAST would appreciate any help you can offer with its upcoming food drive, scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 8. Contact director Linda Ruland at 477-1717 or [email protected] for more information or with questions.

CAST also plans a reunion of those involved with its Greenport Youth Council between 1960 and 1970. It’s set for Saturday, Aug. 15. If you or anyone you know was part of the council at that time, get in touch with Linda Ruland.

I’ve heard that someone is asking around to see if the GHS Class of 1955 is planning a reunion. If you’re a member of that class and have any information, let me know.
