Mattituck school board to appoint interim member

The Mattituck-Cutchogue school board has decided to fill a vacancy by appointing an interim member to the school board.

District residents are asked to submit letters of interest in the position by Monday, Sept. 14.

Longtime school board president Jerry Diffley announced his decision last month to leave effective Aug. 1 after serving for 16 years. Mr. Diffley cited challenges he’s encountered since he began commuting to Garden City for work about three years ago.

The appointed school board member is expected to serve only until the next election on May 17, 2016, rather than for the remaining two years of Mr. Diffley’s term.

Applicants are asked to send their letters to the district clerk’s office at 385 Depot Lane, Cutchogue, NY 11935 or email them to [email protected]. For more information, call 631-298-4242, ext. 253.
