Mary Vail Hart of Southold passed away peacefully surrounded by her family at the age of 91.

Mary is survived by her sister, Virginia Vail Bard (Seymour); her three children, Virginia Mitchell Cornell (Roger), Lawrence A. Mitchell and Clifford D. Mitchell (Kay); four grandchildren, Laura Cornell Fauteux (Tom), Tom Cornell (Marta Thomas), Cameron Mitchell (Jody) and Heather Mitchell Tavis and three great-grandchildren, Danielle and Erin Fauteux and Maria Tavis.

Mary worked at Greenport Basin and Construction Companying during World War II, ran the office at Vail Brothers in Peconic, and owned Orient Point Inn with Arnold Mitchell and Hart’s Hardware in Southold with Les Hart.

For over 30 years Mary was the organist at First Universalist Church in Southold.

Mary spent her time with family and friends, swimming, clamming, walking the dogs, reading, playing Scrabble and playing the organ. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
