Update: Police identify driver of single-car crash in Southold

A 37-year-old Southold woman was airlifted to Stony Brook University Hospital Wednesday after crashing her car into a tree on Route 48, Southold Town police said.

Heather Moisa was traveling westbound in Southold shortly before 5 p.m. when she lost control of her Honda Civic and crashed head-on into a tree, police said.

After the car caught fire, Officer John Hinton extinguished the flames, according to a press release.

The victim suffered internal, non-life threatening injuries, police said.

Police said witnesses observed Ms. Moisa speeding, switching lanes and weaving through traffic prior to the crash.

The Southold Fire Department responded to the scene and assisted in the rescue efforts.

The investigation is ongoing. No other information was immediately available.

Ms. Moisa was arrested in 2014 and charged with DWI after motorists reported she was driving erratically in Mattituck, according to previous reports.
