Southold blotter: $190 in produce stolen from Peconic farmstand

An Orient man was arrested for drunk driving early Saturday morning, according to a police report.

Alexander Aquino of Birdseye Road was pulled over around 1 a.m. Saturday for violating traffic law, police said. He “had a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage on his breath, slurred speech, bloodshot glassy eyes and was unsteady on his feet,” a report stated.

Officers also found Mr. Aquino in possession of Adderall and Valium, both of which are controlled substances, according to the report.

He was placed under arrest and transported to headquarters for processing and a Sunday morning arraignment.

• Someone stole $190 worth of produce from a farm stand in Peconic last Thursday, police said.

A witness reported seeing a man in a 2004 Honda Odyssey take the produce without paying, according to the police report. The owner does not wish to press charges but is seeking financial reimbursement for the stolen produce.

The suspect took $100 worth of tomatoes, $35 worth of watermelon, $35 worth of peaches and $20 worth of cantaloupe, police said.

• A $380 moped was taken from a Mattituck residence last week, according to a police report.

The Piagg brand moped was taken from the Cox Neck Road property sometime between last Tuesday and last Thursday, police said. It was not immediately clear if any suspects had been identified.

• A Laurel man who was caught trespassing on Robins Island last Wednesday afternoon said he was unaware the island was private property, according to a police report.

A complainant called police to report the man refused to leave the eastern beach of the island, police said. When officers interviewed the man, he told them he thought he was within his rights because he was below the high-tide mark of the beach.

Officers told him that Robins Island is privately owned, so Southold Town beach rules do not apply, the report stated. The man agreed to leave the area.

• A Southold man reported that his car and house were egged Saturday night by unknown suspects, according to a police report.

The man saw a car drive away, but he was unable to provide police with a description of the vehicle or the suspects inside it, police said. He will check his security cameras to see if he can get more information.

The man told police that his property was also egged about a week ago, the report stated.

• A Mattituck mailbox was destroyed in an apparent act of criminal mischief early Friday morning, according to a police report.

A Donna Drive man called police to report that his mailbox was destroyed by an unknown person or vehicle early that morning, police said. He was able to reconstruct the mailbox.
