Frank J. McNulty

Frank J. McNulty of Laurel, died peacefully Sept. 21 at his home. He was 91. 

He was born Sept. 21, 1924, at Eastern Long Island Hospital to Genevieve (Schaumburg) and John F. McNulty.

Frank attended College of the Holy Cross and University of Minnesota before coming back to Laurel to work on his father’s farm.

In 1944 he joined the U.S. Army, where he was stationed in Alaska. After his stint in the Army, he returned to work on the farm, until it was sold in the 1960s.

Frank worked at Brookhaven Lab for 33 years. During this time, he went back to school part-time and received an associates degree in applied service when he was in his 70s.

After retiring from BNL, Frank worked part-time doing odd jobs and spent most of his time gardening.

In the community he was involved in the Lions, Maratooka Club House and teaching English as a Second Language at Mattituck-Laurel Library. He was very involved with the library, serving on the board and attending events up until the week before his death.

Frank is survived by his wife, Marilyn “Mally” (née Miller) McNulty, whom he married Feb. 3, 1951, in Mattituck; his children, James (Nancy), William (Deborah), Marilyn and Diane (Lindsay); seven grandchildren, Shawn, Jason (Maura), Dorene, Dylan, Ethan, Isaac (Nadine) and Rebecca; two great-grandchildren; his brother, John (Joan); his sister-in-law, Dorothy; his brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Robert and Margaret Goldsmith; his cousin, Jack (Holly) Diller and many loving nieces and nephews.

The family received visitors Sept. 24 at DeFriest-Grattan Funeral Home in Mattituck. The Liturgy of Christian Burial was celebrated Sept. 25 at Our Lady of Good Counsel R.C. Church in Mattituck. Interment followed at Sacred Heart R.C. Church Cemetery in Cutchogue.
