Cops: Southold woman arrested on drunk driving charge

A Southold woman was arrested for allegedly driving drunk after police observed her vehicle swerving into the shoulder as she drove eastbound on Route 25 in Mattituck Friday night, Southold Town police said in a press release issued Sunday morning.

Police said they detected a strong odor of alcohol on the breath of Kelly Blanchard, 23, after she was stopped shortly after 10:30 p.m. near the Cardinal Drive intersection. Her speech was also slurred, her eyes were bloodshot and glassy, and she was unsteady on her feet, police said.

After failing roadside sobriety tests, she was arrested and transported to police headquarters for a Saturday morning arraignment on a misdemeanor driving while intoxicated charge, police said.
