Margaret I. Scharadin

Margaret I. “Muggy” Scharadin was a true native of Southold. Born February 11, 1939 to John and Mary Norklun, she was raised in the house she was born in – on the corner of Town Harbor Lane and Main Road. Sadly, she passed Oct. 5, 2015.

“Muggy” grew up, in what was truly a paradise then, married and settled in Cutchogue. She raised two sons and then went on to get a nursing degree from Stony Brook University.

She worked at Eastern Long Island Hospital, Stony Brook University Medical Center, Plum Island, Greenport Schools and as a private duty nurse. She was also a “Pink Lady” for many years.

“Muggy” was an experienced world traveler and an avid collector with a keen eye for “stuff.” She had her mom’s green thumb and could root anything. The things she loved the most was to walk the beach and toil in her garden.

She will forever be remembered as a wonderful mom and a loving grandmother.

Predeceased by her husband Donald, she is survived by her sons Daniel of Cutchogue and Jeffrey and Elizabeth (Grella) of Southold and grandchildren, Douglas and Abigail.

The family received friends Oct. 11 at DeFriest-Grattan Funeral Home in Southold.

Memorial donations may be sent to Eastern Long Island Hospital, 201 Manor Place, Greenport, NY 11944.
