Are Southold Town’s roads less safe today?

The state Department of Transportation is currently investigating or recently improved the following areas:

EAST MARION

• Route 25 and Cedar Lane in East Marion: installing “No Stopping Any Time” signs to improve sight distance.

• Westbound Route 25 just east of Kay Leigh’s Court and at Dam Pond Bridge, and eastbound Route 25 just east of Bay Avenue and Cove Beach Road in East Marion: installed “Curve Ahead” warning signs.

• Route 25 at Truman’s Beach in East Marion: installed “No Stopping Any Time” at the beach’s entrance.

CUTCHOGUE

• Eastbound Route 25 just before Pequash Avenue, and westbound Route 25 just before Still Water Avenue in Cutchogue: installed pedestrian warning signs.

• Route 25 near Our Lady of Mercy Regional School in Cutchogue: upgraded existing school speed zone signs and existing school crossing warning signs; installed additional warning signs and will also install flashing lights for the school speed zone sign.

• Route 25 just west of Depot Lane in Cutchogue: installed “No Stopping Any Time” signs to restrict parking at crosswalk.

GREENPORT

• Route 25 and Suffolk County Route 48 in Greenport: investigating a request for a traffic signal.

MATTITUCK

• Route 25 and New Suffolk Avenue in Mattituck: investigating pedestrian safety concerns.

• Route 25 at 7-Eleven in Mattituck: investigating a request to install a left turn lane.

• Route 25 and Love Lane in Mattituck: a request to restrict trucks was denied.

PECONIC

• Route 25 between Bridge Lane and South Harbor Road in Peconic: installed deer crossing signs; a traffic signal was also requested, but DOT officials determined it wasn’t needed.

• Route 25 at the Southold Town Animal Shelter’s entrance in Peconic: installed an animal shelter guide sign.

SOUTHOLD

• Route 25 and Maple Avenue in Southold: installed “No Stopping Any Time” sign.

State DOT officials are also investigating safety concerns about cars parking along Route 25.
