Cops: Juvenile charged with misdemeanor after leading cops on chase

A teenager and a juvenile driving ATVs led police on a chase throughout Cutchogue and into New Suffolk, Southold Town police said.

The chase ended when one of the ATV drivers crashed into a tree and the other driver returned to the scene where the first had crashed, police said.

Police said the chase started about 5 p.m., when cops spotted the two driving the ATVs on Route 25 in Cutchogue. The police tried to pull the ATVs over, but both drivers drove away, police said.. Eventually, one of the ATVs driven by a 16-year-old girl from Riverhead crashed into a tree, according to the release.

The other driver — a juvenile whom police did not publicly identify — continued trying to escape but ultimately returned to where the teen had crashed, police said. The juvenile was found to be carrying metal knuckles and was arrested on a misdemeanor weapons possession charge, according to the news release.

The teen was taken to a local hospital, treated, and released with “numerous summonses,” police said. Both ATVs were impounded.
