Arthur Maurice Nesin

Greenport resident Arthur “Artie” Maurice Nesin, formerly of Rockville Centre died Oct. 3 at his home. He was 87.

He was born Feb. 19, 1928, in Brooklyn to Gizella (Geller) and Abe Nesin. He married Elaine June 29, 1952, in Brooklyn.

Mr. Nesin received his masters from New York University and worked as an industrial arts teacher for 42 years at Mark Twain Middle School in Brooklyn.

Mr. Nesin was a member of the American Radio Relay League, operating under the call sign AG2V and obtained his amateur extra license. He was also a member of the U.S. Power Squadron and the Gull Pond Yacht Club.

Family members said Mr. Nesin was a ham radio enthusiast who had many other hobbies, including boating, fishing, Akido, flying remote control airplanes, reading and studying history, but most of all he enjoyed spending time in his workshop and playing his harmonica for his family.

Family member described Mr. Nesin as a “kind and thoughtful person who would be missed by all who knew him.”

He is survived by his wife, of Greenport; his son, Richard, of Sinking Spring, Pa.; his daughters, Nancy Nesin Feretti of the Bronx and Jennifer, of Newton, Mass.; his sister, Sylvia Nesin Holtzberg of Peconic Landing in Greenport; four grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

A private memorial service will be held.

Arrangements were in the care of Horton-Mathie Funeral Home in Greenport.
