Senior Raeann Berry and sophomore Grace Syron helped Southold/Greenport avenge a homecoming loss to Mattituck by spoiling the Tuckers’ own homecoming on Saturday.

They each scored two goals in the second half to key a comeback by the Clippers en route to a 4-2 victory in a Suffolk County League VII girls soccer match.

The Tuckers had recorded a 1-0 win at Southold/Greenport on Sept. 24.

Mattituck drew first blood 5 minutes 49 seconds into the second half as midfielder Catherine Hayes scored on a looping shot past goalkeeper Hayley Brigham (12 saves).

The visitors equalized when Berry tallied with 26:53 remaining in the half.

Mattituck retook the lead as junior Alya Ayoub scored from a Jane DiGregorio feed with 15:41 left. Less than two minutes later, Berry struck again, drawing goalkeeper Emma Fasolino (seven saves) out of the net and scoring from the left side.

Syron, a center back, then took center stage. First, she powered a 40-yard free kick from the right side over Fasolino for a 3-2 advantage with 8:38 to go in the half before she headed home a corner kick for an insurance goal with 6:24 remaining.

During halftime, Mattituck’s 2005 girls Class B state championship team was honored as the school celebrated the 10th anniversary of that achievement.
