Greenport News: Another round of happy birthdays

Holy nor’easter, Batman! Autumn sure sprang upon us with a vengeance.

Not even Friday evening’s torrential downpour could dampen the festivities as Kristy Harris, daughter of June and Pete, became the bride of Kameron Kaiser at a beautiful ceremony at Kontokosta Vineyard. Kristy and Kameron, may be you always be as happy as you were on your wedding day.

Greenport Fire Department’s Ol’ 33 Restoration Committee held its bicycle raffle drawing at the Maritime Festival and the two lucky winners are locals: Charlie Manwaring and Carlos Saavedra. The committee thanks all who purchased tickets.

The town recreation department is sponsoring a bus trip to see the N.Y. Jets take on the Washington Redskins on Sunday, Oct. 18. The cost is $140 per person. For more information, call the rec department at 765-5182.

CAST is offering free beginning computer classes at the town recreation center in Peconic starting Wednesday, Oct. 7, from 7-9 p.m. For more information call 477-1717.

St. Peter’s Lutheran Church hosts its annual Harvest Festival this Saturday, Oct. 10, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. It will feature live music; a huge yard sale; book and plant sales; beautiful handmade crafts; a basket auction; children’s activities; and homemade food, including clam chowder, wurst, hot dogs, chili, potato pancakes, baked goods and German potato salad made by the pastor himself! The Greenport Fire Department Rescue Squad will once again host its fundraising chicken dinner, plus a 50/50 raffle, at the Sound View on Wednesday, Oct. 14, from noon to 8 p.m. Tickets are $20 and are available from squad members or from Dan Creedon, particularly for groups. St. Agnes Church will hold a spaghetti dinner from noon to 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 18, at the parish hall. You can buy tickets after Masses or at the rectory (477-0048) during the week. The cost is $7 per person or $20 for a family of three or four. The dinner includes homemade sauce and meatballs, garlic bread, salad, tiramisu and soft drinks.

The Greenport PTA will hold its annual book sale today and tomorrow, Oct. 8 and 9, in the school’s elementary media center from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
